Course Selection @ EMIS

This is the form the EMIS Director emailed us yesterday: We have one week to complete and send it back. It is a very difficult choice though and I am experiencing some trouble while deciding what subjects I want to study in the upcoming two years.

STUDENT COURSE SELECTION FORM (2014-2015)

INSTRUCTIONS:
·       Select ONE subject from each of Groups 1-5.
·       Select ONE subject from Group 6 OR another subject from Groups 1-5.
·       Language A refers to the “native language” or “first language”.
·       Language B refers to the “additional language” or “second language”.
·       First language Hebrew speakers will select Arabic as Lang B.
·       First language Arabic speakers will select Hebrew as Lang B. 
·       First language English (or other) speakers can select Arabic or Hebrew as Lang B. 
·       ESS is a mandatory course at EMIS and all students must select as either Group 3, 4 or 6.  
Group 1 – Studies in language and literature:
·      Language A refers to the “native language” or “first language”.

Group 2 – Language acquisition:
Language B refers to the “additional language” or “second language”.
I will study ..................... from Group 2 (choose either Hebrew or Arabic).
Group 3 – Individuals and societies (select one from the subject offerings below):

·      Environmental Systems and Societies (ESS)
I will study ..................... from Group 3.
Group 4 – Sciences (select one from the subject offerings below):
·      Biology
·      Chemistry
·      Physics
·      Environmental Systems and Societies (ESS)
I will study ..................... from Group 4.
Group 5 – Mathematics (select one from the subject offerings below):
·      Mathematics SL (Standard Level)
·      Mathematics HL (Higher Level)
·      Mathematical Studies SL (Standard Level)
I will study ..................... from Group 4.
Group 6 – The arts (select one from the subject offerings below):
·      Visual Arts
·      Film
·      OR other subject from Groups 1-5. 
I will study ..................... from Group 6.

NOTE:
For information regarding specific subjects in the Diploma Programme (DP) refer to the IBO website located at www.ibo.org under the DP section (Curriculum).
CHECKLIST:
·       Have you selected ONE subject from each of Groups 1-5?
·       Have you selected ESS from Group 3, Group 4 or Group 6?
·       Have you selected subjects that you require for university?


Within ONE WEEK of receiving this form please read carefully and complete fully.


So far I thought about this two options:
G1: German A2
G2: Arabic  Ab initio
G3: Economics HL
G4: ESS SL
G5: Mathematics HL
G6: -> G1: English A (--> the program turns bilingual this way)
(maybe additionally French B as a 7th subject)

G1: German A  OR English A
G2: Arabic Ab initio
G3: Economics HL
G4: ESS SL
G5: Mathematics HL
G6: -> G2: French B

It must be exciting as well as scary to study in a foreign country. But I feel that it presents you with several opportunities to learn new languages and mingle with people from other cultures. I look forward to reading about how you adjust to your new school and life in Israel.
